A Small Act: Community Screening

A Small ActOn Otober 14, 2011, a community screening of the award-winning documentary, "A Small Act" was hosted by Maloto, along with Rivertown Film Society and Nyack High School's S.O.S. to benefit Maloto’s student sponsorship program at the Mzuzu Academy, a Sister School to the Nyack Schools, located in Northern Malawi.

The Documentary

An official selection at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, "A Small Act" tells the story of Chris Mburu, a young man from Kenya whose astonishing journey from an impoverished village boy to international human rights lawyer shines a light on the incredible power of giving -- no matter how small the gift.

Celebrate Maloto! Bringing Communities Together
Maloto's 2010 Fall Fundraiser

Our November 17th Fall Fundraiser in Nyack NY, celebrated the opening of Mzuzu Academy, Nyack's sister school and honor its founder, Valley Cottage resident Anna Msowoya Keys.

Thank you to the community for making this fundraiser for Mzuzu Academy a success.

The evening included a powerfully exciting African drumming and dance performance by local musician Arthur Lorde’s Motherland Rhythms, a short film about Maloto’s projects produced by Nyack filmmaker Jennifer Fineran, and a panel of special guests shared their experiences in Malawi and answered audience questions.

We raised $20,000 to buy essential supplies and equipment for Mzuzu Academy, all thanks to the generosity of this community! It is heartening to know that this is a place where people care about children, even if they are far away.

Thank you.

Manhattan Fundraiser
